Brave New World (with annoying content - not photos)

"A man believed to have chopped his wife and two daughters to death in the family home in Tin Shui Wai died in hospital yesterday after being in a coma for 12 days.
Li Pak-sum, 44, treated by police as a murder suspect following the April 11 killings, died in Tuen Mun Hospital just before 9.30am.
Police investigators had had no chance to interview the man. He fell into a coma shortly after being found with three stab wounds to his abdomen, with the bodies of his wife and two daughters nearby. - South China Morning Post (CLIFFORD LO 2004-04-24)"

I like this kind of imagery, its nos so much the quality that matter but the text that accompanies them, im thinking of starting to marry my photography with text to create this kind of work. Very nice, seemly innocent but when accompanied with the narrative you start to think of the series in a different way.

Third picture down is nice under that context.

    Question Ok???

I am not real sure what you are trying to do?
I take it you are looking for a critique of the photographs, ,but what does the text have to do with it?

Its more of a critique on the idea, its what the images mean under the idea of what the text from that article said, do the images work under this idea. Its less about quality of image but more on what the image is exploring.

I had to stare at the images for a while to get a sense of what I think you are trying to do here. Severely blurred images of a family during good times (at the beach), relating to your text of a family tragedy. The images seem to represent memories that fade. I hope I've described some of what you are trying to convey. As for the technical aspect of what you have done - I think #2 is a little weak in it's conveyance of your message and could be left out as the other three tell the story.

    Great work.
This work has motivated me enough to start a few similar fresh concepts I have been thinking of getting started soon. Keep up the work.

Re: Brave New World (with annoying content - not photos)

    Hi hi,

I am not sure if I should provide some sorts of explanation at the beginning when I first post these picture. I decided to include the news report only as I think that would leave readers more room to imagine and decode the message that I want to convey, and at the same time to see if the photos can deliver what it suppose to deliver - idea, impression, etc. So therefore there is not only one reading of the photos possible, I hope. And so, yes, I am looking for a critique of these photos under the idea, or the project (whatever you call it). Please again bear with me again, my apology.

    Best regards,

    Alex Chung

p.s. the text is extracted from a local newspaper in Hong Kong. The murder-suicide event - as one of the many before and after - resulted in a wide repercussion in the Hong Kong society.

    No Worries Alex!
It is something a little different than I think a lot of us have seen. Which is a good thing!
Keep at it, fine tune it some and show us more.
    Good Luck!

    Hi Alex,
I think the pictures successfully depict the past memories and happiness. The impression is much more stronger with the text. I agree with Tuna that the 2nd pic is not strong when compared with the other.
    All the best.
