I read somewhere once that ears are critically important for police artists sketching suspects from a witness description. That might be hooey and it might not apply to dogs, but I sorta do think Gus needs his ears.
If he had ears, however, it would be a pretty standard portrait angle. As it stands, it is a bit different.
I just put another photo of my own up for critique. Would love to read your comments and suggestions if you care to leave some.
It doesn't ruin it at all for me. I like the framing effect. I do wish Gus had checked the mirror and wiped his nose before posing, though! Great expression!

I agree with the lot. I think it is more interesting without the ears, besides, our brain automatically fill them in.
All opinions expressed by this person are purely that, opinions which means she doesn't actually know anything about photography.

Paula, I wiped his nose and eyes, and dusted the dandruff off of him in this shot.
Frog, I cloned the tag and fur to fill in the bottom. Any better?
