    Do these need foregrounds?

    I'm fresh out of hikers in red jackets.
    No room for them in the checked luggage.

    Paul - I think they would probably be better with something in the foreground, especially the larger one. The other one maybe gets away without it somewhat due to the letterbox crop. Your light was a little harsh and doesn't really model the textures of the mountains, so I think it does need a little something to give it dimensionality. Anything might have done: a sign, old car, etc.

    Alternatively, a little more saturation and contrast to give more 'beef' to what you already have?

    I think the first could be improved had you had something in the foreground but not necessarily just more foreground. I also think that the second could definitely use a bit more foreground, because it's cropped to a very think panorama.

    In shot 1 I think you captured "The Purple Mountains Majesty"
    In shot 2 the homes do tell us just how big that rock is in the background.

    A Ghost Town or Mining Camp makes an awesome foreground...
    Ask at local gas stations since they won't be on the map or in the GPS.
