    Nightlight (without light?)

I've posted this image in the past and have since posted it on gallery-style photo sites. Some comments I received were that the bright blue light was distracting. Is this better???

Which one do I like better? Both of 'em, depending on the feeling you're going after... I think the second one has a lonely fbeauty while I love the mixture of blues in the first. I also like how the blue light in the first image almost takes the form of a cross.

Both are very nice shots. I could choose either depending on my mood. So, I'll choose neither and say both look good. I will say that, if these are for something special and you go with the second image, you may want to take a little extra time and play with PS a little more to remove the last little bits of blue in the waves near the bottom left of the picture. I can still see hints of it on my screen, and it makes it look as if you had a little smudge on the lens when you took the shot.

    IMHO,

    Fred

    Tuna,
I like it alot better without the blue light. A simple, beautiful serene and somewhat mysterious feel. the simplicity of it works strong

Thanks for the heads-up, Fred. This was a quick and dirty PS job just for comparison but I had not noticed the remnants of blue in the waves...Thanks!

    Hi Tuna,

For subtle image there is alot that one can draw from it. As to my opinion, well I like the way the blue light mimics the moon and even like how the line created by the light draws you into the image. The feeling I walk away with is a sence of searching, nonspesific, nonurgent, but peaceful search. I think the second image looses this. Another thought could be removing the moon but keeping the light. Just a thought.

    Regards

I am instantly drawn to the second one without the light. It's much simpler , which adds to the mood you are trying to portray. It's really a beautiful scene.

    Hello Tuna,

I guess that I have to against most people here and say that I like the original one best. Actually, I find both version to be interesting in their own way but the original is so strong that I wouldnt even care to modify it if the picture was mine.

To me, the blue light and it's reflection in the water make the shot more moody/mysterious.

    well done

Dang! I had gathered my thoughts on this, and then scrolled down and Phil said exactly what I was thinking!!! Except for the part I put in parentheses! I think you have three awesome images here
    (2) as you've shown and then once you crop the moon out of Image #1 that will leave you with your third image... I like them all, But if i have to chose between the two you've posted I like the 2nd (with out the blue light) because i feel that when comparing the two the 'manmade" light loses out to God's nightlight.
