night project

Hey guys,

I have been away for a while. I am working on a night series and I'd like to have your take on this one. What about the sharpness, I can't quite make my mind on that.

Hi Seb .. I am not sure about the sharpness - the darkness and the restrictions of a monitor make it very hard to tell. It LOOKS sharp though, if that helps. The first one doesn't do anything for me I'm afraid. The second is more interesting - the young man sitting alone on a bench invites a story. I can't help but feel though that more could be done with that - maybe he is just a little too small in the frame to invite much empathy with him (if that makes sense).

Welcome back Seb, I have wondered what had happened to you. I agree with Mike on the first one. I like the framing of no.2 The strong lighting coming from the left and the gentelman looking right. Almost like he is pondering his future. I think he needs another element though, a backpack or something to help the story along. But the sharpness to me looks fine.

Seb I think it would be easier to comment on the sharpness if the larger image was posted somewhere as a lot is often lost in the resizing etc.
Composition-wise neither of these shots draw me in I'm afraid. The lighting is adequate no doubt but I feel both are lacking in interest.
As Greg pointed out the park bench shot just needs that something else.

Welcome back. We'll just skip over the tree and go to the bench shot for now.

I'm getting to much distraction from the tree and the light reflections in the fence on the left. I see a potential for a composition with the sidewalk, the black fence, the bench and the man accented buy the slight reflection on the border of the building in the backgroud. The street and traffic light in the background provide some zest or interest to enliven the dark.

I feel this photo has too many diverse components for it to effectively work as it stands. I'll look forward to your next efforts in shooting in the dark!

Welcome home - missed you around here.

I agree with the others, in that there isn't a story behind the photo and there is too much background clutter which doesn't contribute to the photo because you can quite make it out. It looks like a football stadium in the Uk or a bus station...

I am satisfied with my tree despite your lack of interest (lol) but I see your concern about the right frame with the guy. I'll rework the whole thing.
