Giant Swallowtail

Giant Swallowtail, Papilo cresphontes. Caught this guy in the butterfly garden at the local nature center. The little bugger was flaping his wings like a humming bird, but I managed to get one in focus.

Interesting shot. DOF is great, just not huge on the movement of the left wing. Right wing is perfect, very crisp and awesome, the left is just too blurry for me. Other then that, lovely colors.

Those little creatures can be tough. I think I'll just stick to the method of gluing a dead one onto a tree to photograph it And the avatar, your change inspired me almo! My friend sent me some new ones so I thought I'd change my old winter avatar to something a little less 'wintery'.

I prefer the challenge of finding and trying to get good images of live butterflies. The other way is just no fun for me.

I really like this pic. The colors are beautiful and brilliant . I think the movement of the wing actually adds to the pic and it doesn't bother me in the least.

Thanks Nina. Truthfully I agree with you and Jared. Depending on how I view this image the wing swings both ways for me. But I think I kinda like it more than not.
