I always enjoy your night pictures CF. Great image again. The lights in the background are a little distracting, but just a little. Strong composition and I love the reflection....

Thanks Greg. I wish I knew PS well enough to take out those 4 hot spots going across the horizon, behind the boats. They are distracting but there wasn't a bloody thing I could do about it. Thanks for the kind words.

    Love the sharpness.
Hot spots don't bother me much.
Maybe if toned down a bit but I think they give the viewer information as that's very close to what the eye would see from that position anyway.

Very nice indeed and good sharpness and exposure. The lights in the background are fine by me but the bright area on the left I do find distracting. I feel it could be cropped out without doing any damage.

Beautiful! Love the colour of the water and the great composition! And no tripod!!! Oh, okay - what I learn from this is to follow your fine example and take the tripod out more!!! Love it!

    McPaul,

Thanks for the fine comments. Not sure if you meant this photo was taken without a tripod or you need to take it out more often. This shot was definately taken on a tripod, however.

    Thanks again.

Very nice picture, I love the reflections in the water.

However, I would've angled the camera a bit higher so you could see more of the sky.

Sorry, what I meant was I applaud your use of the tripod and criticise myself for not using one more often - should follow your fine example.

Ah... good enough. I kinda thought that was what you meant but wasn't sure. I have a full size tripod and a smaller more compact version that fits neatly in my photo backpack. It's always there just in case.

    Thanks again.

    CF,

Nicely captured, my only critique is the light on the left on the boat hull next to Millie G. Perhaps a bit of burning in will sort this out.

    Ronoco,

That would be great. I have no idea how to make that happen so your offer is most generous.

    Thanks,

Awesome shot. Super, super sharp. If it were a little darker I bet the boats would have rocked and there would be a little less sharpness. The reflection is awesome.

    WOWWWWWWWW!!!!
Gorgeous shot CF. Would a polarizer help the hot spots in future?
Now I know you have a 400D but what lens did you use please?

    Re: My Gal, Millie G.

    Allison,

The next thing I need to learn to do is include all the information about the shot. This was taken with the 400D and the Tamron 28-300 lens, 15 seconds. I really like that lens. I tried a polarizer on other shots which helped the hot spots but the colors came out darker thus are not as striking. Perhaps that is an exposier issue and I simply missed a chance due to inexperience but I will keep that in mind when on my next night shoot.

Thanks for the comments. I appreciate it very much.

Well I think you do a fantastic job with your night shots.
Did you also apply a noise reduction filter? Because when I take night shots they are sometimes pretty grainy.

    Allison,

Not in this instance. The ISO is 100, which is as low as my camera will go. Another good idea though and will keep that in mind. I don't always remember to slap that on.

Well the four bright lights are gone and the bright area on the left with the reflection as well. It's a start.

    Re: My Gal, Millie G.

Your photo doesn't need photoshopping, what you need to do is go back and reshoot using a smaller aperture. Those bright blown out lights will come out like stars. You'll love the effect.
