    Struggling to get up

I like it when you come across street shots that look a little surreal, and this one of a human figure struggling in a maze of geometric shapes appealed to me:

I haven't done anything in photoshop with it yet, so I may be able to make the final version look a little sharper and punchier.

    Thanks for looking

Beautiful. Love the tones, the tilt is great, and a nice subject. Well done!

Interesting, well composed shot. Was this "seen" or posed? If "seen" do you know what was happening here?

Love this. The only thing I guess you'd have to optimize in Photoshop is the curves. Other than that, it's an amazing shot. Well done.

    Re: Struggling to get up

    Thanks for the comments.

Tuna, this was a 'seen' shot. I went for a walk on Hampstead Heath in London at the weekend and came across "The Writer", a giant sculpture of a table and chair by Giancarlo Neri which was recently erected there. While I was there this guy managed to climb on to the chair, and was having a go at pulling himself up on to the table top.

I took a lot of photos which give you a better sense of the whole scene, but this more abstract one of a tiny figure dwarfed by the industrial looking structure and struggling to pull themselves up was my favourite, and seemed to carry the most meaning.

    Cheers,

    matt

This is absolutely super, I love the sharp lines and the contrast achieved by the struggling human figure, excellently composed and the use of black and white works perfectly, a truly Orwellian image.......just out of interest, did he make it to the top?!

    Many thanks

I really like the abstract nature of this and the angle you captured it at is terrific.

    Re: Struggling to get up

    Hi Matt,
The photo reminds me 2 things:
    1. I struggle to get up at 7:00 am each day;
    2. The ad of Tag Heuer.
The photo is well spotted and executed.

    Re: Struggling to get up

Thank you for the comments, very much appreciated.

Herriot - Orwell was one of the things I was thinking of, I've always like that sort of imagery, (Metropolis is a good example as well) where human figures are battling to avoid being crushed by 'the machine'. And to satisfy your curiosity, after a few failed attempts he did make it in the end. It prompted several other people to try, but he was the only one who was able to do it.

    Cheers,
    matt
