Gary I love the textures and the lighting but the one thing that really bothers me is the tilt to the left. I am not sure about the tightness at the bottom and perhaps more of the bottom pipe would be better.

Very nice Gary. I have a few of these stuck back on the hard drive, but none quiet this good. The processing really works.

readingr beat me to everything I was going to say.
I tried looking at the tilt as artistic license but it didn't work.
    Is it an hdr?

    Gary,

The texture and tone are indeed very eye catching and work well for this image. I have no problem with the tilt and slight twist of the photograph.

I am not as satisfied with the light falloff at the bottom when compared to the top and middle . It is close to being to bright behind the knob. The perspective of the knob comes close to overwhelming the image. It may be more the placement of the knob relative to the center of the image than the forced nature of the perspective.

It is one that I could spend a fair amount of time studying.

i would like the entire shot to be in focus

on the twist, I think it would look better as "straight" or aligned with the wheel's "cross"

The angle makes the shot-the ?switch? to the left looks like a bat,and...great title, too !

I love the title but think the image is too tall.

    Crop some from the top.
    No, I DON'T need that.

    Re: SteamPunk 1

Thanks for the feedback on this.
This is not an HDR. I wanted this to be a sort of caricature of the steampipe and valve. I used a very wide angle focused as closely as I could on the valve to give it that distorted and in your face perspective. The tilt was ok with me and went with the whimsical look, I felt.
I have posted a re edit for your comparison and comments. I straightened the angle some, and also came in alot tighter on the crop, without losing the bat-switch in the upper right corner that I also like alot susaan. I also reduced the vignette added to the original to improve the light fall off and detail in the edges.
So, what think ye of before and after. . .

    Re: SteamPunk 1

Hmmm... odd shot.. seems like a vintage image that you might see in the pin-up, but of an inanimate object instead of a model, all due to the dark sepia tones.

I think it's a worthy subject, but there's just a bit more happening than I can accept. The background is too busy, I think.. But if you cropped out some of the top and perhaps a bit of the bottom this might solve it. I like the original zoom more than the edit btw.

And as always - excellent eye for neat subjects. Half of this field is seeing an opportunity.

I prefer the original. It has more of a grungy, dirty feel to it, which I feel belongs to this photo.
