    Morning Blend

Full moon again this morning. I used the image blending method to get the moon exposure with the 2 stops more exposure on the forground.

what a nice composition, Chunk! I think the grainy-ness of the foreground in the image works in this shot- as it is early morning hours, and the moon is so clear.
    Nice shot!

Chunk, it may just be my monitor, the moon is nice and bright (I love pictures like this), but the foreground is very dark, almost so dark I can't make out much. I can see dark shapes, but that seems to be it. If it is just my monitor, then never mind . Love the color of the moon though.

Thanks Rebekah. I was happy that the image blending worked like it did to give this shot. I think I'm going to have to get the Noise Ninja to use with this camera's low light images.

Thanks for looking and commenting. It is pretty dark ( still about a half hour or so before sunrise). There is enough detail to see the tiles in the silo but not much more - it mostly sihouetted barn and shed and tree against the deep blue sky. the snowcovered barn roof is a bit lighter than the sky.

Are others having the same problem?

Yes, Chunk - it looks a little too dark on my monitor as well. BUT I don't think you want to lighten more than the tiniest bit - keep this "dark of night" look.

I really like the image, especially your view/perspective. I believe a cropping out of the little bit on the bottom and the part-of-something on the right would tighten and improve the composition. In this case, a little less may make an already great shot even better.

Very nice moon you got there. I agree with all about the darkness. Also if you were going for the silhouette then I suggest you brighten up the sky a tad bit that way the rest of the shot can stay as is.

now on my monitor the brightness of the "dark" are looks perfect. Absolutely perfect.

Chunk, this is a dark image, but it should be dark as this is the mood going on here. I can see the lighting of the two roofs and the silo, and the dark shadows of the sides of the structures leading down to the bottom of the frame. The moos is detailed and yellowish. A nice moody image here.
By image blending, this is a composite? just want to clarify.
    Good work
btw, I have been doing sdome moon shots as well using mulitpleexposure. first set was ok, but just did another a few hours ago and will see how they turn out when they are developed.

    Re: Morning Blend

Thanks for all the nice posts.

Tuna, I was thinking about doing those crops before posting and decided to put it up uncropped to leave a little more detail in to make it more of an overall farm and moon shot instead of having it more of just a moon shot. I appreciate your suggestion and think I will print it both ways and have a look.

Leels, I'll take a try at your suggestion but think that if I lighten the sky, the roof would look strange so I'd have to mess with that ... and so on. It might be worth a shot though and all it cost to try is a few electrons. Thanks.

Kelly, I agree that it's close to what I want. I haven't gotten a printout yet. After reading Rebekah's post I downloaded Noise Ninja and ran it so I'm going to print it noisy and quiet too.

Gary, if you blend together bracketed shots to get exposure latitude, is that a composite? I don't know if the dictionary has kept up with the technology. I would think that a composite would be adding something that wasn't in the the original shot. Here's the cookbook for the method I used. I did the Layer method and I think it worked pretty well. I'm looking forward to seeing your moon shots.

    Re: Morning Blend

I am looking at this image on a pretty crummy monitor so please forgive me if my comments are off the wall. The moon looks properly exposed but the foreground still looks very dark to me. I do like the color in the sky though and I can make out some shapes in the foreground. I think this is a nice technique to make the scene look more as we would have seen it in real life and that this picture is a big improvement over the standard moon shot on a black background.

Thanks Greg. I can relate to your crummy monitor because my home one falls into that category. I just boosted the brightness on it last night so I could see this shot better.

OK, wasn't sure what was meant by "blended together". No, I would not call that a composite. I use neatimage when I feel it neccessary, but I have heard great things about this Noiseninja, as well. Would like to see the results when you have them.
btw, I see you are looking through luminous landscape. One of the writers for the site swears by a program called Picture window Pro. I had tried the demo and found that I could not immediately adjust to working without layers. Wondering if you had thopught of using it or not.

I haven't looked at it. I like having layers too.
