    I tried a few things differently. The main thing I took care of was letting the camera "settle" on the tripod.

    Arne - You're working these pretty good. So I know who to ping when I need advice on astronomy photography

    This one should be sharp though, considering it's so small a post, and I still see a lot of softness on the edge there. Looks like either your SS is too slow (likely) or the DOF is too shallow and it's not focused right.

    Someone pointed out to me the other day that his Nikon lens let you focus BEYOND infinity (or however you say it) .. he showed me: if you manually set the focus all the way out, it's out of focus on distant objects. I don't know what's going on with that.
