I love a really white, white on a lush green background. Could use some more space around it - especially at the top. - TF

I have to agree with Old Clicker,

But I would like to add that the yellow stands out fairly well.

This picture give me the impression that the flower is floating. And i agree with old clicker, the top need more space.

Can't add anything to what's been said. The exposure and dof are good.
Petals running off frame drive me nuts.

    Re: a flower

Thanks everyone. The lack of space around the flower was the main reason I posted this. I wasn't sure if it worked or not.
    Sounds like it doesn't.

Don't know that I'd be so quick to trash this one.
As long as you're not wanting to print it *huge* it's probably worth the effort to explore some alternative cropping
    Here's one possibility:

    Re: a flower

Thanks for the suggestion, jetrim. I hadn't considered cropping to that level.

The original actually has more space on all sides but the right. It was a shot that I almost got rid of because of the composition. Since there was so little space on the right side of the flower, I decided to try centering the flower. Maybe I should try cloning in some more green on the right side, and then crop out most of the left side, this time leaving more space...? I'm still not very good at anything more than basic cloning, though.

    this is the original:

I like jetrim's crop and see why you went the way you did.
If you can clone into a canvas it might work but I sure don't know.

I don't know if it's just me, but doesn't the edges seem slightly blurry or is it just a soft focus?

    Re: a flower

I think it would be better if there's more room on the right and at the bottom. The white flower in the upper left hand corner is a problem.

Here's another option you could consider, if it's not against your ethics that is:

    Re: a flower

Frog, is "cloning into a canvas" the term for what I described doing on the right side?

icicle, this was shot at the lens' maximum aperture, so the DOF is pretty shallow. Photos shot with the camera used here (Canon S2) can also get a little soft around the edges in super macro mode, which is at the widest end of a very long zoom range.

AE, the vignetting helps some to draw attention away from the other flower, but like you said, the space on the sides of the flower is still a problem.

Actually I'm not sure. I know you can't clone outside the frame of the picture but thought that maybe if you did a canvas resize you could clone into the canvas area. Not sure at all but I might try it myself when I have a chance.
