    Wide Angle For Seb...

I like the converging lines in this. Shot with my N80, Fuji NPS 160, Sigma 28-70mm f2.8. Opinions and comments welcome. How could I improve this?

Must be a real comfortable bench.
I like the converging lines as well. How important is the background to you? It seems pretty busy and that walkway leads your eye right to it - then you are looking at building shapes, dirt mounds, trucks and cars...
I think the picture is stronger without the bg and with a little contrast boost from a histogram adjustment.

    For WHICH Seb??

The problem with wide angles is they take in a LOT. And many times needless clutter shows up in the image. Such is the case here with the buildings in the back.

When working wide I would suggest getting REALLY close, that will exagerate the perspective and make it easier to eliminate distractions. The suggested crop is decent, but I would have gone for a completely different angle, probably much lower, emphasizing the sky. Not that you should have done that, it's just that wide angles really take a different approach than longer lenses. In my eyes at least.

    Later Rob.

Maybe adjusting your f-stop to get the background blurred out and have the right railing go from out of focus to gradually in focus? The houses and other clutter takes away from what is unique about the photo, the cat and the converging lines in the boardwalk.

I'm not even A catlover and i dig the cat

    Yeah which Seb?? lol

I like your angle and the effect that the lense generate (converging) but I have to agree with Berrywise that a shallower dof would have worked best here. The cat is truly interesting.

And when I checked ways to crop it, I ended up right where you did! You're a genius! (Great minds think alike, right?!)

Thank you for the comments and the crop.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. Of course I meant you. I know how much you loved your WIIIIIDDDDDEEEEE angle lens! One of the reasons I was stunned that you went totally digital!!!

I agree with you and Chunk about the background clutter. I was concentrating on the angle, lining up with the rail, that I totally ignored the background. Next time, I'll try to remember to look for that. (I know better!!!!) Looking at it now, I should have gotten lower to eliminate the clutter, or higher, and cut the top of the frame at the end of the dock. I'll have to go back and see what it looks like both ways. Now, if only that cat will come back...

Thanks for you input buddy! It is appreciated as always.

That makes two of us! I'm a dog man myself, but the cat was so cool and casual and just made himself at home.

I like the shallower DOF idea! I just dialed in f8 that morning and went shooting. I should play with that as well as the different angles. Sounds like tripod and DOF Preview time.

BTW, we've got two dogs, two ferrets, a hamster and an iguana. We call it Dawn's Zoo, since the wife does most of the care/feeding of them.

Thanks for the comments. They are appreciated.

Sorry I wasn't more specific. But if you're a wide angle fan, then this one is for you as well!

Glad to see I wasn't the only one that found the cat interesting!
