Re: makeing a liveing with a smille
It's a nice shot but the exposure is off. Consider masking the sky separate from the subject and foreground. Adjust the contrast of the two individually. It makes a world of difference and plus you'll get more detail in sky and brighten up his face.
Re: makeing a liveing with a smille
First off, I think it is a little too tight on the left, you cut of the chair.
I know that you were wanting to show the skyline, but you need to have a little more space on the other side for the subject.
And as the other person said, it is a little dark, especially on the subject.
You could have used a little fill flash to fix that easily.

Hey I know him!
Okay, no I don't, but someone who looks similar.
What's nice is the expression you got from him, he looks comfortable, and happy to have his photo taken.
I think that you've got to much here. Either move in tighter and really bring the focus to the guy, or pull out, and bring the focus to the scene.
And the exposure thing.

G'day EastCoastHucker,,,,yeah I agree with Brian and others....The exposure is a bit off..His face is almost in shadow and as Brian mentioned fill flash could have helped here or lightening him up in PS...I would have cropped the image more tightly..Also those cable thingies to the right a a bit distracting...All said and done you have the basis for a great image here with a bit of work..
