    Hi everyone
    After brief tutorial post first B&W attempt

    I like what you have but feel that the composition needs more room at the top, right, and possibly the bottom of the picture.

    I like the tonality but it could do with a bit more contrast and the grain you captured in the wood. The branch is a little blown out and could do with a bit of toning down but I do like the contrast with the main object in the picture.

    Just my thoughts and a warning that I am using an uncalibrated laptop.

    I agree that the stump feels "squeezed" into the frame.

    Normally I am all for a tight crop but this feels too tight.
    No, I DON'T need that.

    Hminx, this is really a great shot well done. I see these sorts of shots in my head when walking around a forest but can never really anchor the right angle, you've done it beautifully here, I'd agree though a bit more space for the stump would have made it a real winner. You selected a good B&W subject. S
