Little Guy, Big Leaf

Re: Little Guy, Big Leaf
Loupey,,,although this image displays classic example of selective focusing IMHO the little guy is lost by the great expanse of leaf...Also too much of the leaf is out of focus...Sorry mate for being too harsh..
How would a tighter crop work???

Re: Little Guy, Big Leaf
Thank for the input, Jurgen. Always nice to hear from you - no worries about being harsh :)
The little guy does get lost. However, I fear that cropping in will lose the "lost" effect that the little guy brings. I do have another version though. However, I am posting that one over in the Nature/Wildlife forums.
As for the DOF - yeah a little more would have been preferred I agree. But had to hand-hold and my 10D doesn't allow acceptable high ISO images for me to stop down too much.
Thanks again.

Re: Little Guy, Big Leaf
Hi Loupey,
I like the tone-in-tone colour a lot. The blurry leaf indicates that the small guy is completely lost and the uncertainty he is facing with. Well done!

After the past plenty photo's ive seen of yours, i'll always know to look to you for a good macro shot.
:-D Good job. I like how small he is in comparison to the large leaf, it does work for me. congrats! :-)

Re: Little Guy, Big Leaf
Loupey,
I think this is a great shot. I love the composition. It's kind of hard to tell how sharp the little guy is, but if he's sharp, his size relative to leaf will work very well in a decent size print. It doesn't work as well in a small web size image, but I can see the potential. A monitor just can't do it justice. Good job!

Re: Little Guy, Big Leaf
Thanks, Yoyo, SS, and Paul - your comments and especially your impressions are of great value to me.
I was hoping the monotone effect would help the little guy (a damselfly I think - I never did get to see the top half of the leaf before he took off) pop out more. I had hoped that by isolating him by color, composition, and focus that he would not get too lost in the shot.
Paul, I think I will make a large print out of it. The little guy actually has these "menacing eyebrows" which (I hope) will make it a humorous image.
thanks again!

Re: Little Guy, Big Leaf
Loupey,
It works great as is! A superb job of isolating the subject. It brings many emotions and thoughts to mind of overwhelming odds and uphill battles!
Bravo!
