I like to try and catch snowflakes like this too. I think your first has too deep of a DOF and/or too busy of a background to really makes the flakes stand out. The second is better in that respect but is so noisy. Is the second a heavy crop? I think that one is on the right track, but still needs a more uniform background and less noise and it could be a really nice shot.
