Life In The Fast Lane: Inside Looking Out

I was in LA for a couple of days; went for a walk one night.

Looks almost like you hand held this one, It's a neat shot I just wish the light trails were longer, no gaps, and the fence was gone. I have had luck at ballgames sticking my lens through the fence. I have always wanted to try this type shot. It's on my to do list.

i like it with the fence and shorter tail lenghts. looks like it might be to light, though, in the dark areas off to the right side.

Thanks for commenting. As a matter of fact I did handhold this shot. I leaned it against the railing and the fence. I was out for a late night walk and gave it a try. I debate with myself over some shots, whether I should post them, as what I see and hope to convey will come across. The fence was supposed to add to the shot in some hard edged way; city lights, fast traffic, concrete, etc., but you are wishing the fence lines were not even there. I do have traffic shots without the fence but they just look so..., I don't know, meaningless.

But, that is the great thing about photography- it is all in the eye. I do appreciate your feedback just the same.

Thanks very much for commenting. I noticed the same thing but then I see a car was in the far righthand lane for those split seconds casting light on the landscaping at the edge of the road.

Walking in L.A.? Isn't there an ordinance against that.

I kind of like this with the fence being centered and the slight hand held blur. Some more skyline light might have strengthened the whole effect. This presents as a slightly frantic image. That works well for walking in L.A!

I was trying to use the fence to create a little different look to a common image.

I actually like it with the fence, it's just jarringly off centre, a little not in line with the centre barrier, so the picture doesn't have that perfectly set up symmetrical look. Gives it a little dynamic element - though I found I kept trying to move my head to put that barrier dead centre and the fence didn't move :o
That little element of tension works, though I suspect you might not have planned it that way.

Wombat:

I tried to get centered but there is a post on the immediate left edge of this shot. In fact, the camera is resting on a ledge and against the post. If I moved to the left of the post, the image is off on the right. So, if it works because it is slightly off it is by happenstance and not for trying. Maybe it adds to the concrete, fast traffic, fence, edge too.

I like it! The fence adds a great element to the shot and it does make it different for sure.
I particularly like the colour in the distant sky. The short trail lines don't bother me but they look oversharpened, perhaps this just comes from the fact that this was a handheld shot, the use of a tripod would have rendered even better results.
