    Let it snow...

    Howdy all,

My first "official" shot with the D60. Quite simple, and possibly one of the worst Christmas shots I have taken, but, I was too anxious to do anything better A flake of snow, taken with the 50mm f/1.8.

Quick summary of the exif data:
    Shutter - 0.9 seconds
    ISO - 1000
    F stop - 1.8

    Enjoy,

    Jared

Interesting. . .I find it has a bit of potential as a Holiday greeting card with room for some text in the dark area. My only suggestion is lighten the face of the flake just a bit.

Quite frankly, I like this a lot! lol. It's plain simple but I can't seem to get good shots of ornaments like that. The whole scene could be brightened a little to open the shadows but otherwise I like it. I like the location of the star inside the frame and how it's partly hidden by some branchs.

About colors rendition, the color cast give it some sort of retro appeal. You would need to use a tungsten color balance (or something arround 3000k) to get a more realistic rendition but that specific picture doesn't need it in my view.

I like the color as well. Very warm, like candlelight.

    Re: Let it snow...

Wow guys, thanks for the comments.

Gary, thanks for the comments. That dark spot is a little annoying on the bottom, but I guess it could fit well if it was a greeting card...thanks!

Seb, I'm glad you like the colors. I had turned off all the lights and was getting the light purely from the Christmas tree lights, which I think gave it the "retro" feel. THanks for pointing out it's a tad dark too...I'm on my laptop at my girlfriend's family's place so it's hard to tell with my screen. Thanks again.

D, thanks, I appreciate the comments!

Jared, considering it was your first with the new camera, and you were mainly fooling around with it, the picture ain't bad.

Swmdryfan, Thanks for the comments. The picture was mainly exploring my camera and trying to figure all these things out.

Knight, Let me pull up that thread and I'll bump it to the top! Thanks for the reply.

    Jared,

I like the 'dark' effect in this photo! The light behind the star is almost a 'hairlight' for the ornament. It winds up with the photo having a fair amount of dimensionality.

Enjoy the new camera and Merry Christmas.

That snow flake is cute. lol. What a face!

This shot is very moody Jared. Not only in the chrismas mood way but just moody. Sorta like being in one's living room with candle lights going having a few wine glasses with the significant other kinda moody. ;)

    Re: Let it snow...

Drg, thanks for the comments, I appreciate it. I think what makes the dark effect work well is that the snowflake is so contrasting, and the black kind of circles it around. Thanks and Merry Christmas to you also.

Liban, So it's a baby-making mood?! Kidding, thanks for the comments. I definately like the mood it portrays also.
