    No Body Home

I venture here to the dark side where I seldom venture to submit this image of an abandoned and crumbling structure that was once a fine home. I spotted this while Joy and I were on a Kroger's run this afternoon.

Love everything about it! You really thought this one out composition wise, and the conversion is just stunning. Excellent shot

    Really nice work, Larry!

Excellent composition and sharpness. I love the way in which the tire tracks lead the eye in, their positioning is just right.

To improve the shot, perhaps darken the highlights a tiny bit. Also, consider cloning out the tree-tip touching the frame's top edge, it is creating slight "visual tension". Clone out just the tip, so that there isn't any edge contact.

Other than these two nitpicks, very good job.

It looks like a difficult exposure. I guess snow is always hard to expose for. In saying that, I think you've done a great job.

Beautiful. You managed a great shot, with the difficult exposure the snow has...scary house man!

What a find! Are those your tire tracks and if not it is rather intriguing to think about why anyone drove up there.
I agree with Alex about the tip of the branch.

The tire tracks are what make the image Larry.

Great shot, yes it looks like it was once a fine home, funny how time can change situations and circumstances, much of what we see today. S

Chilly. Love how the tire tracks lead up the hill, the snow is not smoothly crushed around the tire tracks, but rather broken and rough, which is great for the subject. Everything comes together perfectly here, down to the bare weeds reaching through and breaking the potential smoothness of the snow. Powerful, harsh, superb.

    Hi OT,
The photo is very good. The withering trees match the deterioating house so well. As mentioned by the other fellas, the tire tracks add a lot to the photo. Well done!

All I wanted to say has been said.

Wonderfull composition and the black and white shows it off brilliantly.

    Re: No Body Home

Thanks to everyone that has taken the time to visit this image and comment. I think I will return under different weather circumstances to explore this place further with camera in hand. Alex I think you have a very valid point about that tree sticking out of the top of the image. I'll give a try at cloning a bit out and see how I like it.

That is the road into the farm as well as to the house. There is a barn with livestock beyond the house.

    Re: No Body Home

As everyone else has already mentioned, this is a great shot. I would love to see this same shot on a day with no sun to eliminate the shadows on the roof and bring out the contrast of the trees against the snowy roof.

In New Orleans where I live we rarely get snow, but it definitely opens up a lot of photo opportunities. Some of my most memorable shots were of a visit to Vermont years ago, just after a heavy snowfall - beautiful!

    Re: No Body Home

I thought I'd already commented on this shot, but i guess I didn't. Great image [EDIT: second one much better]. Nice title, too - a touch metaphysical (no body home... yet the place does look kinda haunted...)
