    Re: First try

    Hey Nuck,
This is my first post at this forum...lucky you...I'm like you and finding out about the subject as I go.

I like the sunset and lone fisher shots... nice subjects... and well done!

The framing in your first shot is off...shoot it again with a tighter crop..or come out more and get all of her and the doorway in....the leaves are in the way in the foreground as well...move to the left to shoot her without anything distracting you from her.

What's the subject in the second shot....the gulls....the fishers? Try focussing on one of them? Seems a bit dark (ISO?).

Thanks for the pics and I hope to see more of your shots
(I do flowers and will post some now)...and mate....don't know if anyone's told you but -

    man, you look like Rollins.

    Re: First try

Those are great suggestions. To be honest I had never really thought about what was the subject of any of my pictures because they were obvious to me, but once you look at it it could is confusing.

Your not the first person to mention Henry Rollins. I use that pic as my avatar on almost every board I am a member of. Its actually Lance Storm the Pro Wrestler from Calgary. I am a lot further up the ugly scale myself.

    Nuck,
I like the last one best. His pose is perfect IMO and I like the fact that one of the two fishing poles is in front of him and the other behind him, though I think he's too centered and the shot itself too square. IMO it would've been better to have him more to the left of the shot and maybe even getting the horizon in there. welcome to PR btw.

    Re: First try

    Nuck,

I agree with Leels the best is the lone fisherman and I think it would stand better if you cropped some 2" off the right so that he is brought off centre.

You need something in the foreground of the sunset, its just a little bland as the sky on its own isn;t powerful enough

The gulls shot just doesn't do anything as there is no subject you can focus on but there is something in the framing the fisherman with his rods gives the photo.

The photo of the girl needs a lot of work, crop above her head so that the lock disappears and the photo instantly improves a bit.

However, saying all that you need to start looking at what the subject is through the viewfinder and getting rid of all the irrelevant bits from the photo. Keep looking at the photos in here and submiting yours for critique and you'll soon get the hang of what looks good.
