Very nice shot. I know how hard it is to capture something like this, let alone getting a good composition. I can feel that guy coming towards me, so you got some action. I also love the way the web curves around the subject. Very appealing.
Thank you for your comments. The shot was hand held, so if it's a off, that's probably the reason, I did use a bit of unsharp mask in PP. This spider was about 1" across from tip of right to tip of left rear legs. She was a cooperative subject, for a short while.
I like the composition. It seems the shadows have been brought up too much (the background behind the spider seems it should have been darker).
Also, in situations like this, you "must" aim for the eyes. I put it in quotes because there are some instances when one doesn't but those instances are fewer. Because the eyes are out of focus, the entire shot appears off.
Even handheld, you should shoot a lot of frames to ensure that you get a couple with the focus you want.
Thanks Loupey,
I took almost a dozen trying to balance a few aspects of the shot. DOF and focus were primary but I missed the eyes. A small subject, at ground level. The only way that I'll get better is to continually try to improve my technique and what to look out for.
Thanks again, Ed
