    Stockholm evening

Hi -This is my first post. I've enjoyed photography for a long time, but never as much as now having gone digital!

This is Stockholm last May-a wonderful city!

    Re: Stockholm evening

    Welcome!
The bright lights sort of catch my eye too much compared to the darkness of the rest of the scene...don't know what could have been done about that though.
Why are there lion heads in the street? They make it quite intersting for a non-traveler like myself.

    Welcome!
I really like it and as frog pointed out those lions heads at allot to the photo..
I do not find the lights distracting at all. If anything with the contrast of the sky, the buildings and the lights it gives me a good sense of what time it is st id id heading towards the evening hour..

What ISO setting did u use?

I see a blurry image. Did you shoot it hand-held? I guess you probably couldn't do much to those blown out signs unless you a second photo of the same scene and combine them later on.

The photo is interesting, but seems out of focus. I'm interested to see more of you work.

    Re: Stockholm evening

Thank you for your feedback. To answer your questions: The ISO was 100.
I think the lions are in the street to indicate the beginning of a pedestrians-only area. There are wonderful shopping areas both indoors and out in Stockholm. It feels very safe there and walking and cycling are encouraged.
I was worried about the quality of the downloaded image after I reduced the size. my closest choice was ~400X~600. In the original the lions are extremely sharp as are the signs in the foreground. I saw in the tutorial info that you can correct and sharpen the downsized images but I didn't know if I'd have a problem until after I posted it. I guess I have to rework my images.
Is there another way to display pictures? other post's images seem larger....

    Thanks

Use Image shack. I usually post 800 or 900 diagonal pics.

Welcome to the forum. I like your point of view looking down the street but the image does appear soft. Did you use a tripod, and why such a low ISO for a dark scene? If the image is sharp as you say, than getting the resizing for the web right should help. Always apply some unsharp mask before saving as your final jpeg.

    Re: Stockholm evening

Indeed a nice perspective and I find the flags filling the overhead area a great scene.

The photo's softness is simply from resizing and it needs to be sharpened, either via USM as Gary suggested or probably a simple edge sharpening would make it pop!

The photograph also seems to be underexposed as well. A few adjustments (in photo editor of your choice) should make this one a pretty nice record of a visual memory. I wouldn't worry too much about the blown out signs, for me it is all about the flags!
