High and Dry
I took this because I loved the colours. I could not find a good angle to remove the train and keep the houses and sky.
Opinions please

The colors of this imager are great. I really love the vibrant colors of the boat against the duller pastel colors of the BG.

Re: High and Dry
Have you tried to position yourself more to the right and tilt your camera to keep the houses in one corner while filling most of the frame with the boat? This might work if you are ready to give less importance to the houses.
On the other hand, the pic of the boat could be the main subject on its own. The wide angle here really gives a strong impact and the red color keeps the viewer's attention.
BTW, where was this taken?
Cheers,
Steph.

Re: High and Dry
I'd second Steph with his thoughts on composition. I think the pastel colours of the buildings to the right make a more attractive backdrop than those on the left, the one you can partially see which is a sort of turquoise competes a little with the blue of the boat.
I can see why this attracted you, the colours are great. I would imagine this has scope for more shots.

Re: High and Dry
Hi thanks for the comments.
Steph, this was taken the day we sailed into Dartmouth (UK). The boat is a fishing vessel which was out of the water for antifouling. The following day she was put back in the water so no more pictures of it, and the rain poured down so dull and dreary day.
I tried several different positions before taking the shot but only took this one - To the right were some more boats with people working on them and I didn't want them to clutter up the picture.

I'm not bothered at all by the train with its subdued color matching the other pastel tones of the background. The rich, saturated primary colors of the newly painted boat are teriffic and the the more subdued colors of the train and houses provide an unobtrusive background that still provides a sense of place. Very good composition.
