    Tidal Flats Sunrise

I wanted to show the mud flats and cattails along with the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument.

I am not sure if I put the horizon too close to the center of the frame.

What say you about the composition?

It doesn't work for me, mainly just that I'm looking and wishing the cattails weren't there. Maybe if they were a little more focused or lower or something, I'm not sure how to get them to fit. Gorgeous colors and scene otherwise, as usual. did you take any with the birds as the foreground?

    Re: Tidal Flats Sunrise

I pretty much agree with what caleb says.

Those cattails really aren't working for me either – if they were a little more in-focus, it sure would have been better. Or, if they weren’t there at all – it would have been best. Especially that one on the middle right which is rivaling the Washington Monument – very distracting. Sorry, MB1.

About the horizon being too close to the center – I think it's OK as is.

    Gorgeous colors, though!

    Re: Tidal Flats Sunrise

I've looked at this several times.
I agree and disagree with the above.
The best I can explain is that it isn't a "pretty" picture thought there are elements of beauty.
What I like is the 'reality' of it. Even a beautiful scene, no matter where, has mud flats somewhere.
I do agree the cattails would be better in sharper focus but it looks like you were close and I don't know what aperture you'd need without blurring out the rest of the shot.
    Keep Shooting!

I like the shot, but would have probably cropped more on the right (to take the memorial off center) at the expense however of losing some of that blue sky. I'm good with the blur in the foreground as my line of sight is the horizon and the color. S

    Re: Tidal Flats Sunrise

I have to agree with the majority and say that the Cattails are distracting. I keep finding that my eye is drawn to them rather then the focal point. The colors are very nice, and although the horizon is close to the mid line, I think it works quite well. Even with the cattails it is a very pretty shot and one to be proud of.
