Re: Help settle an argument!
Well, I guess your husband won because here it is, posted.
Like you, I've learned a lot about what makes a good photo by being here.
You're right about the barn. Also the power line could be cloned out and it would it would be nicer if your subject were facing forward, not necessarily right at the camera but forward. The grass/pavement line is a bit of a problem, too.
Now, is it a great photo? Is it your child? If so, its a great photo because in years hence it will bring back memories.
Re: Help settle an argument!
Thanks! No, my hubby didn't win....I am just proving that he doesn't have the eye that he thinks he does! LOL JUST KIDDING!
Yes, it is my son and yes, there is a memory but I think it could be much better artistically.
Re: Help settle an argument!
If he would have been right, that WOULD have been a GREAT memory, Jeff
Re: Help settle an argument!
If you review some of the stuff I have posted here you will see that this image is certainly no worse than most and better than lots......
Now on to your shot......
You have your son in a good spot in the frame and with the light background of the structure behind his head he doesn't get lost in the background (even though the building adds a bit of clutter.
The image is tilted to the left.
The sky is correctly exposed but the ground is slightly underexposed. Since the main object of the image is your son riding the scooter you should adjust the exposure to be correct for him.
I'd suggest that in the future you try to get much closer to the subject of your shot, other than that your eye for composition is pretty good.
