Have you ever considered multiple shots at different focus areas and then layering them together in Photoshop?

Yes, that is a good suggestion/reminder. I have done it a few times in the past. As you pick up on the depth of field is so small, it gets a bit difficult. I prefer not to use flash, but ma need to invest in a ring flash eventually.

He uses a modified 4x5 with traditional darkroom techniques.

I like this photo...I enjoy how only pieces of it are in focus. It gives it a very unique feel, kinda dream like. Having everything in focus thru multiple exposures would produce a sterile feel.
    Great job.

    Cheers.

I agree with PT. If it were all in focus, it wouldn't be as interesting. I certainly wouldn't try to quell a unique perspective. So, if you didn't realize it already, I like it :)

Nicely done. The balance of color and black along with the hair makes a real creepy crawly image! The out of focus curly antenna makes it not just another 'lab' shot of bug.

I don't like the pink background but it's great otherwise. Very freaky!
