    Alley Way

I'm back with another street photo, but this time just the street, no people. I tried here to keep the plants green as there was a green light emanating from the windows at the arches top left. Then I activated the sepia, and did a bit of cropping. I've included the original to help in your critique. My own critique is I'm not getting the depth I'd like, any advice on how I might achieve that?

I like your edit. Depth, I'm probably not qualified to advise on but I would try a smaller aperture and perhaps making the focal point farther in?

I agree with your assessment that the image could use more DOF. I like the original over the sepia edit. I also will say that I like your composition.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

I like the first edit but it seems a little soft. For more depth shot a higher aperature and hyperfocal focus or focus one third the way into a shot. Image stabilization also helps a bunch in low light.

Is it my imagination, or was the edit also lightened? It has less detail than the original and seems to wash out a bit from the yellow sign back in the edit. You might try converting it to greyscale, tweeking the contrast and then increasing the color depth again and either overlay or colorize the greens and sepia tones. (a bunch of work, but it's a good shot)

Thanks, I'll re-shoot the shot when I'm next down town. Traveling over the next 3 weeks without a camera so I'll be gone for a while. Again appreciate very much the advice.

SM - They have potential but I think that they're both soft. I can't tell for sure but I dont think it's strictly a DOF issue - you may have used too slow a shutter speed in addition to too wide an aperture. You gotta use a tripod or, if you have one, a vibration reduction lens. They also seem to lack interest a bit... I think you need a stronger subject in the scene too, perhaps a person or group of people. Nice place though

Thanks to all for the input and I'll take this into account when I'm back there to re-shoot. Just so you know, settings were as follows: ISO 320, f/4.5, speed 1/20's. focal length 48mm. I was using a Nikon D300 with the 18-200mm VR, Dynamic 9 points.
