Hanging around with the D2HS...

Hi all.
It's been a long time since I shared any photos here...partly because I haven't been spending much time here in recent months. I don't want a major critique here, but wanted to share a few images i've taken playing around with my new Nikon D2HS.

Hello Harrsion,

I wish I had your kind of equipment, you are loaded lol...

Technically, the execution seems fine in all of them. The colors and the sharpness are especially right on. From a compositional point of view, I really enjoy the last one, the line are great.

While we are at it, how do you like the 17-55? I was lurking at the 50mm f/1,4 but the zoom might be just plain more convinient...

loaded? I suppose I am. My plan from here is to replace my temporary sigma 28/1.8 EX with the 30mm f/1.4 EX HSM, get an 85/1.4, probably a 50, and then get teh D3H when it comes out. After that comes an intel mac tower to compliment my macbook pro... only then will I allow myself more lenses :) I'm trying to keep my kit sleek with the right tools for the right job.

Unless you absolutely need the speed, the 17-55 is absolutely amazing. I had my doubts at first coming from the 17-35 AFS, but I was pleasantly surprised. I miss my 17-35 and 12-24 for landscapes, but the 17-55 still does well for them. Wide open it is a gem, and then proceeds to become the crown jewels from f/4-5.6. It isn't *quite as* good as the 17-35 at say f/8 or f/11, but it still beats the pants off nearly everything out there.

It is the ultimate people lens on DX. And the ultimate random shot lens.

I didn't set out to really compose for the first few shots, those were from the first day or two actually, more or less making sure the camera worked well and focused my lenses properly, getting to know it etc. That has something to do with the centering of the shots, as the center sensor is most important to me. I am still trying to break the habit of centering all my shots that has been my flaw with the D70 and even the D200 (I wear glasses too often, makes it harder to verify focus on the outer sensors and the line sensors on the d200...well...i dont know whether to trust them too much). The CAM2000 AF system seems to be doing very well though now that i'm using the other sensors more. Still need to try sports but I know it'll do better than my D200 and I can't see how that is even possible.
It seems to be very good with UV filtering- more so than my D70 or D200...which is why we actually see purple in one of those shots :)
my D200 seems like it may have a slight edge in regards to cutting IR, which is one of their advertising points of it, so not a huge surprise there. The LBCAST sensor may be more sensitive to IR than CCD.

The last shot though I went there solely to see that plant and capture the angles of it at that stage in blooming. My father had gone the day before and saw the angles then. He suggested I go shoot it... They had changed but were still fun to photograph, and despite being in a massive rush I think things went well.

Thanks for the infos! The 17-35 is quite a piece of glass, I rented one a year ago or so. I liked it although it's pretty heavy. I am getting the 12-24 in a week or so (which I also rented a while back). I found the sharpness to be quite terrific. Are you aware if Sigma corrected the compatibility issues betwen the 30mm and the D200? They had quite a lot of troubles when it first came out. That 30mm seems like a fine lense though...

All the HSM lenses need to be re-chipped for the AF-ON button to work, but they do that free of charge, and the new ones are already chipped that way.
