    Fun with ISO 3200

I did a series this fall of models with antique radios/appliances, etc. The model here was done up in modern punk/goth garb to contrast with the antiques. This started as a throw-away shot, but when I got it back, and manipulated it in photoshop, I came up with something that worked really well. I blew this up to 24x36 and it turned out really well. Grittty, atmospheric and ethereal. Shot with a 10D, ISO 3200, no flash, 28mm 1.8 lens wide open. It was DARK!

Give the higher ISO's a chance sometime; they can work really well for a certain type of shot, and a gritty no flash shot is almost always better than a smooth but flash blasted "correct" exposure.

I like this one alot. The "gritty" look of it is great, don't really have much else to add. Nice job

This was another throw-away, and didn't make the final presentation, since she was just standing there getting ready to pose. This was taken in the same series as the radio shot. Another ISO 3200, no flash, 28 1.8 lens, wide open shot. A bit risque, perhaps, but, well it was a risque gig. I apologize if anyone finds this vulgar. I can't post any of the ones that went to the client, but I like these two "out takes" for my own reasons.

Stephen, I really like the look of these.....they remind me of what you'd see in the '30's Germany....a la 'Cabaret' if that makes sense. Very gritty and ethereal as you pointed out. Top notch.

The grit statement is a perfect word to describe this IMO. It's stark, it's revealing, and it's great.

    Well done,

These are very good. I like the gritty, moody appearance and swmdrayfan hits it on the head with the comparison to old german Cabaret style feel. The shot with the radio is a strong composition with the radio up in the top left corner and the model down in the lower right. well balanced. The bright , almost burned out highlights on the radio add to the feel of the image as well. Nice work
