    Fun with calculus

Last picture until I can go and take some more.

Again, I really like the, I guess you could call them focus, pictures. As always, any comments are greatly appreciated as it helps me learn

We'd call it depth of field maybe...the amount of distance you have in focus in your photo. Looks like you might have had your camera shoot with a low aperture.

I think you are having a lot of fun. Interesting depth of field. If I can make a suggestion - try taking a picture again, but try to leave out all the distractions on the sides (blue notebook, chord, wood, yellowish thingy as such) - so that you are truly focusing to math and the calculator ...then try it in Black and White.

I'd also recommend some other angles. Your lens isn't quite fast enough to really blur whatever isn't in focus.

    Re: Fun with calculus

I'll suggest a reshoot so the calculator is diagonal in the image,
let us see more equations on the sheet of paper
light it with a flash light sideways , everything else dark
use a single color background or maybe something that looks like a library table, or say a book shelf with more books
use the minimum focus distance and you'll get more content out of focus
use the minimum f stop number you have

probably set your camera on a surface, say some books , and use the timer to shoot in case the shooter speed is too low to do it handheld

play with the exposure so the histogram doesn't show blown details

    Re: Fun with calculus

After looking at both pictures, I like this one much more. The whole picture seems more alive I guess. Thanks for the tips Really enjoyed to set-up as well.
