    Freeze

Just got this shot about 10 minutes ago. I almost didn't walk over to see what was sparkling in my neighbor's driveway.

    Re: Freeze

Chunk, I can imagine what this must have looked like sparkling in the light of day, but it does not seem to have that effect in the capture. I can see the texture and cracks and reflections and sparkles, but i cannot "feel" them somehow. Maybe its not sharp enough? or the angle did not capture enough glistening? not sure,, I'm thinking you should try converting this to a b&w,, as the color here is not going to be missed and the tones and texture maybe come out more.

    Re: Freeze

I like the idea behind this but I think it would be better in B&W and also perhaps losing some of the bottom of the picture where dullness seems to creep in. The sparkle which made you go and look has not been captured here.

I think the contrast needs to be beefed up a bit to add that extra punch that seems to be missing.

Thanks, Gary and Roger. I think you give good advice here.
Here's another frame that is closer in and with a different color balance and contrast done in curves. I think it catches the feeling better - probably because of less business in the reflection and the the concrete is less visible as well.

This image loses an awful lot in compression for posting.

Excellent - that is what I was looking at - would also look good in B&W and also other visual effects which you can play with

    Re: Freeze

Really nice second picture, it works better as the blue tones in it portray the ice much better than the brown seeping through the other. I did a color shot not dis-similar to this with reflection in water, ill try and dig it up and scan it in, water/ice is a relaly nice way to get a pictorial/ slightly surreal image.
