    Steamboat Rock

Boy I've been busy lately. I've hardly had any time to get out and take photos. Taken in the Bighorn Mountains just west of Dayton, WY.

Wow. I really like how the snow S shapes it's way up the ridge and leads into the mountain. I also like the angle of the light hitting the top and the shadowing on the right. Super

I love the snow, but what really makes this photo for me is the sky. It looks ominous yet, it has a gentleness about it in the way it leads to the melting pocket of snow. I do not see anything to critique..

I agree that the sky being as dark and blu/gray as it is really sets off the lit mountain. It's very good time and lighting. The weakest part of this for me is the dark and gray snow in the fg.
    Very nice.

I agree that the dark snow in fg is an issue but I don't know what can be done about it as you'd lose too much by cropping it out.
I'm betting this looks really good as a BIG print.

I wonder how many steamboat rocks there are in the country. We have one over in the coulee country of Washington.

    Re: Steamboat Rock

I liked the sky too, this is definitely the best photo I have taken at this location. I got lucky, when I left the house the sky was partly cloudy and looked really good for photos. As I drove up the mountains the sky went to overcast and it looked like a wasted trip. Then right near sunset the cloudiness dissipated to a scattered layer and left some really great conditions.
