    Re: Antelope Country

Great shots. I love seeing the light in the eyes as in #1 and #3. In #2 you got an insect in the back ground that is a bit distracting, but but amazing how clear it is. The same with #3 but not to the same extent is the "water" drop.

Could you lets us know what these were taken with and what distance?

Would love to know the technicals on these as they are amazingly clear.

    Re: Antelope Country

    Thanks for the critique.

They were shot with an Olympus E-5 camera and a Zukio 90-250 2.8 lens.

I used a blind, tripod and cable release. These were taken inside of 20 yards.

Here's one I took the day before from a different location using the same techniques and equipment. He was about 22 or so yards away. When they are that close, its a one shot deal to get it right, as the camera shuttering and mirror make enough noise it scares them out of camera range.

And here's another fledging Horned Lark.

#1 is great but almost seems a bit too close/tight, I think you could PS in a bit more sky. These animals look to be in better condition / health than those in some of your earlier posts.

Isn't it a cool thing in nature that the colours never seem to clash...

    Re: Antelope Country

Antelope are one of my very favorite critters. Photos taken even a few weeks ago will show a pretty scuffy critter as they are losing their winter coats. Antelope unlike deer, elk, moose etc, don't get their summer coats (loose their winter coats) until at least a month or more later. Within the next few weeks the antelope will look pretty good, and I think about as good as they can look. I personally don't think they ever look as nice as in their summer coat, once all the old winter hair has fallen off.

Here's a photo I took last summer around July 1st. That just shows the difference three weeks can make at this time of year.

In a month for when this photo was taken, this doe will look about as good as she will ever look.
