it's a good subject and subtle mood. The only change i would make would be to crop out some of the foreground which for me, does not contribute much to the mood, and also some of the sky, as it gets too bright towards the top of the picture.

I like the idea of the shot. Maybe a horizontal crop with less of the sky and foreground, the front of the car in the right third. You might want to play with the curves a tiny bit in PS to bring out just a hint of detail in the gantry or whatever it is in the background.

    Nice feel to it.

    Dear Scott,

I like the atmospheric feel of this photo. The fog adds a lot, diffusing and softening the light. The indistinc nature of the subject is very effective. I would, however, agree that there is too much negative space in the photo. It would have been nice if you could have gotten closer, and filled the frame with the boxcar, and had some fog to balance it.

    Regards,
    Drew

Great sense of mystery and agree with the comments on the horizontal crop, great shot!

    Scott,

I agree with everyone on cropping the sky but disagree with cropptng the foreground.

I think that a little more contrast in the box car and I mean a little to make it stand out a little more and thus emphasising the fog would make it stand out. However i like the subject and the position of the box car in the photo.

Did you bracket the exposure as I always find I need the bracketing to get the right effect in fog and I end up with the underexposed picture most of the time.

You have me humming Kenny Rogers now. I'm sure he's somewhere on that train playing some cards. :) I like the shot as presented with the train heading from a solid existence into a whole lot of nothing. I think the suggested crops might lose some of that.

I agree about the crop of the sky, too bad you couldn't get more of that bridge in the background, but fog is too thick! Nice shot
