Does this work or is it just a stereotypical shot? How about the framing? Wasn't sure that I would post this, the blown out road ahead bothers me and wish I could see more of the driver's face in the mirror but would be interested in any comments anyone has,

I like the sense of motion captures here. Looking at it gives you the sense of speed that I think you were trying to capture. Missing the face doesn't bother me at all since I did not even notice the mirror until after reading your comments. Looks like it was a fun ride.

I think you did exceptionally well under the circumstances. Oddly enough I tried an almost identical shot in China a couple of weeks ago, but yours is far, far better. I especially like the splash of red provided by the bus.

The face doesn't bother me at all - it would be a very tiny part of the frame.

Excellent title for an excellent shot. You didn't just capture movement but you also captured speed and excitement like a boyracer overtaking the red vehicle. The blown out road is no problem at all here and if anything it adds to the sense of speed and drama.
Someone recently on this forum asked about blown out areas and their benefits or otherwise; here is a great example of it being a benefit.

I see what you are saying about the mirror, it would have been cool to have his face with a neat expression in there but that is a pretty small part of a neat image.

I love the color saturation and the feeling of speed in this image.

If anything (and if you could do it again) using an even wider lens to get more of the reflections in the roof and more edge of frame action would be cool.

I agree, it works well. Your tilted angle, the blown out road as Tom brought up, and the motion blur give us the sense of danger, speed and excitement. The face is fine not being there. Actually, I see half of yours and a bit of his, so it does add something for me.

I would be very surprised to see it duplicated.

Nothing stereotypical about it. I haven't seen a shot like this in quite awhile. I wish the lens was a little wider, seems a tad constricted, but you did a good job here. I personally like the tilt. If I did change anything else I wish the roof wasn't as prominent.

i might tone down the reflections on the roof. I like the blown out road. Something about it makes me feel excited--like its magic? I dont know. just my $0.02

Herriot, you did very well here. I rode a couple of these in Bangalore and wasn't brave enough to pull out the camera and shoot, but I will have to reconsider that the next time I'm in that area. You have certainly captured a lot of what these rides are like.

Thanks all for your input, interesting to gather the input on the blown out area ahead and how, in certain people's opinion, it adds to the shot. My lens could go wider but space was limited and I saw that bus coming...!

Yoyo - really like the comparison to a video game given the surreal nature of those trips where common sense goes out the window, not that there are many windows to begin with...

I've been on a tuk-tuk ride in Bangkok... believe me, you captured the excitement (horror) of the experience. Love the composition, the tilted angle (hold on tight) and saturation. Nothing typical about this shot. Well done!
