I like this a lot!  Have you tried correcting for the lens or is that the effect you were going for? I tried straightening it and it looks pretty good, Jeff

Awesome. Makes me wanna break out my old fisheye again. (I still have a 16mm AF-D from my film days. I used to use it a whole lot.)

There isn't much about this shot that I don't like. Wonderful way to christen the new axe.

Curious: didja lose much money in the 5d2-to-D700 trade? I'm a heartbeat away from going the same route.

Fantastic shot! Did you use HDR? The colors and sharpness are amazing.

fisheye and the hdr...nice. I have to admit, I've very much tried to imitate your tone mapping style.

Dray I sold the 5DMKII privately, probably lost just under 20% off the new price on it, not bad for 13months use I guess...........this was with a friends Sigma 16mm Fisheye.......I need to get a FE myself. If you ever want to get rid of that Nikkor 16mm drop me a pm:thumbsup:

This is great. Love the fisheye view here, and the HDR is well done. Nice tonal range, great color and detail. The fisheye lends to a fun shot, and that this is, and more.
    Love it.

Super shot! Did you use Photomatix for the HDR processing? And does the 5DMKII have a 7-shot exposure bracketing setting or did you have to do it with overlapping 3-shot bracketing?

Yes Photomatix, and I have got rid of the 5DMKII, this was one of the first shots with my new D700......................and the Canon can only do 3 auto exposures at +-2EV max

    Critique?

I don't see much real critique in the responses on this post. It's mostly just compliments and back pats. That's fine but we need to make sure we stay on track on this forum or it could stray away from its intended purpose.

So what could vmlopes have done to make this a better photo? Was the fisheye a good lens choice or could he have chosen something better? Do you like the angle and composition of the photo? How about the exposure and processing?

A good critique always includes praise and suggestions for improvement. Don't be afraid to share your opinion. That's what this forum is for. And don't forget - the critic has as much to gain as the photographer. In making the effort to articulate a serious critique you will learn a lot that will benefit your own photography.

OK....I personally would have chosen a "regular" wide-angle rather than a fish-eye. Something that has less distortion. Other than that, it's a fine photo.

So John, where's the critique to go with your guidance? Lead by example, that sort of stuff...

    Re: Fisheye Fun

I just really think it is a cool shot. The fisheye does it for me. This is coming from a guy that loves his fisheye though. I think anything is cooler bent like that.

My only problem with this shot is the pillars and arches on the left are more saturated than the ones on the right. Either looks great. Just pick one or the other.

Uh oh .. VM's at it again. Incredible work .. the evenness of the lighting, the symmetry, the way the various objects balance out the scene - all brilliant. I don't think I could offer any ways to improve it, but with a place like this ... You have to try a Halloween photo ! Vampires, skeletons, ........... this place just looks Gothic and asking for it
