    Flowers are in Bloom!

This is supposed to be a bumper crop for flowers out here in southern Cali due to some well-spaced rains. Saturday's the big day for me, but here's a start. I think the dof could be a little deeper on the purple one?

Not much of a critique, as I like them both. I too have noticed that we have some nice flowers growing around here and was thinking of going to descanso gardens to see what I find...

    What lens did you use?

J - It was a Tamron 90mm macro. I rarely use it, but when you need it it's nice to have.
Try shooting in bright sunlight. It really makes the colors jump out!

That is the exact lens I was going to use...The Tamron 90mm macro...I asked because I really liked the DOF in those images.

    Re: Flowers are in Bloom!

GB1 - I agree that the DOF could be a bit bigger on the purple one - the out of focus nearside petals distract a little as the eye goes to them first. I like the other one though - especially the way you have overlapped the petals. Not entirely convinced of the crop though. Still, these are nice enough shots.

    Cheers

    Re: Flowers are in Bloom!

I'm thinking they are just a tad too dark (could be my monitor) and could have used a bit of soft fill flash to make them pop.
    No, I DON'T need that.

    Re: Flowers are in Bloom!

Thanks everyone. They are just a bit dark, but of course I could adjust that very easily in PP. I just thought that it created an interesting mood.

Mike, I'll watch that DOF this weekend.. I plan on hitting the fields big time on Saturday and possibly Sunday too. I plan on bringing

    - water spray bottle
    - colored cardboard for fake out-of-focus backgrounds

    Anything else you can recommend?

MB - I guess I can experiment with the fill flash. I will be shooting a lot of digital (and maybe some film) so I can see the results immediately (though not on a big screen).

J, I guess you already have that lens then? Expensive but nice.. I really like it's out of focus blur. Works nice on models too.

I do have that lens. I do not seem to use it as often as I should, but I did bring it with me today. I am going to leave work early, in hopes of finding a good capture of something.
