Fernwood Cottage
I'm not sure I like the log in the FG. Comments and suggestions?
Thanks,

Re: Fernwood Cottage
The log is only mildly distracting, it frames it a little bit. It would look better without the log though. I want to go in and remove the young tree that covers up so much of the house.

Re: Fernwood Cottage
I like the log in as it not only helps frame but leads my eye to the stream which leads to the cabin.

I think you need the log. There just isn't enough non-green in the picture without it. - TF

Thanks all. The log stays.

Re: Fernwood Cottage
I like the log, but maybe not so dominant. I can see this cropped down just a bit, removing everything left of the second verticle tree, and everything below the top of the diagonal stalk at the lower right. That would still leave plenty of tree in the frame without it overpowering what's beyond (this would also place the cottage at the intersection of the top 1/3rd and the right 1/3rd). Very cool little cottage you've found there. Got any shots from other angles? Maybe one the shows more of the waterwheel?

Re: Fernwood Cottage
I like the log but think it dominates too much and needs to be cropped just below the bump on the log where the water is. I also think it is a little soft to me. Nice find, jeff

I do have one other shot of this. Not so good I'm afraid. Thanks for asking, here it is.

OK cropped it and sharpened it a bit. Sorry to be a post hog.

Re: Fernwood Cottage
Looking good! If I can add just one more thing, after seeing it, I would crop off the top about half way between the top of the house and the top of the picture, Jeff

Re: Fernwood Cottage
I like it, would also like to see what it looks like in the fall also!

Re: Fernwood Cottage
Phil - Looking at the original, I think that the log gives it dimension/depth but that it being out of focus like that is distracting. The shot also seems over saturated to me. The 2nd posting of it seems less so. The water wheel shot is OK but doesn't quite hold my interest - maybe if it was taken from more of the side, the geometrics would look better.
Yes this area would look great in fall foliage.

Re: Fernwood Cottage
Thanks for the comments. I'm afraid I'm too late for the fall foliage this season. I didn't even think about going there this fall. Maybe Winter?
As far as the saturation, the orignal post was pretty much straight from the camera, the later was unsharp masked and then I adjusted the brighness down to "take the edge off" from the sharpening. I think I added a bit of green as well to compensate for over sharpening it.
