Execution Site Of Easter Rising Leaders 1916

From a recent visit home. For myself, I wanted this photograph to record how I felt on my visit to the scene. Hard to articulate this.
Your comments on the imge are welcome.

I think this is very good, Tom. Visually, the textures of the stone wall and that of the pebbled ground are so appealing. The placement of the door and cross well balanced, and the tones and contrasts are wonderful. So, an already visually appealing image is then brought up to another level in its historical significance. The deaths of the leaders of the Rising to bring about a democratic and free Ireland has us looking and thinking about the events that occurred in this otherwise already intriguing location.

    Hi Tom

I know you will understand what I mean when I say that I believe in ghosts. Sometimes a place is more than a location, but carries something of the weight of what happened there. I sensed this kind of thing in places like Auschwitz. Not that your location is on the same level as that, but something of the same thing applies, I think: your image captures something of that intangible element common to historical places where terrible or momentous things happened.

    Cheers

Tom I really like it the b&w works well. I like the shadows around the door frame. It certainly creates a mood to the image that goes with the story. Maybe if you had stepped just to the right and got a dead on shot at the door giving the door some symmetry. But still very good as is.

I think the key to this image is that cross on the left.

love how black the cross is. it stands out good. a pure white cross could've worked as good aslo. i think the feeling of this photo conveys the title pretty well. it's also simple with only 2 elements pretty much. 2 elements that are both in a nice position compositionally. the black and white rendering is also a good one.

I like it a lot, but I don't really think it says anything - nor does good photography need to.

Re: Execution Site Of Easter Rising Leaders 1916

Thanks very much everyone for your time.
Greg I take your suggestion on board and agree with you.
Didache; Thank you for articulating something that I was unable to do. I understand your words.
Draper; your name is not familiar to me but a big welcome if you are new. Whether photographs, "good" or "bad", need to say anything is an interesting comment and a good debate but that's another days work.
Does the fact that this does not say anything to you, mean that this photograph, which has very little to look at, is a "good" photograph?.
I've enjoyed your comments on other threads here too. Looking forward to seeing some of your work?
Gar, Liban, Aging Eyes(like mine) thanks for your contributions.

I'm just a hobby photographer with little skill, but I really like this. Even without knowing anything of the history (off to learn) it gives me a twinge and asks for contemplation.

I think the composition is text book perfect

It is surprising to see the wall caved in a bit, I guess from incredible amount of bullet shots ?

Imbrium; I feel the same as you when I look at it.

Armando; You might be right regarding the "worn" wall. Who knows? Very glad you like the composition though.
    Thanks again to you both.
