    Sunset

Hey, I am new to the forum and photography. I just purchased my first digital camera, its a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H2. I am very interested in getting more into photography and I hope the camera I picked is good enough for me to learn on. Here is a picture I took the other night, coments, tips and pointers would be greatly appreciated. Nick

    Re: Sunset

Hi nick, the flowers/weeds in the front of this shot really does nothing for the shot, the flash is really blowing it out. If you would have got above the weeds, and just took a shot of the sky with the trees in the background (with no flash), it would be a really nice photo, I love the colors in the sky.

Yeah the flash blowing the foreground out is really distracting from the sunset, which should be the focus.

    Amd

Welcome to the PR forums. I take it you work for or like AMD CPUs?

I don't totally agree with the others that the flash is a bad thing here... to me it seems sorta dramatic. The weed is not a worthy foreground subject, but if you had some prettier flowers or another subject in that spot then I think it would have been OK.

But the flash spot is also too much. I would tone it down a little by covering it with a hankerchief or something.

I've seen a shot just like this before btw. I was in Tucson and someone was doing portraits of a model against the setting sun in the Saguaro National Park. They had mobile umbrella flashes and their own power source. I was able to see the digital results there and they were great. So I know the concept is proven. Just have to soften it up a little and of course choose a little better subject.

Thank you all for the replies. I have an other one that I took without the flash. I will post it up shortly.

GB1 - I do not work for AMD but like their processors! Thank you for the welcome.

This is nice. Well done capturing the color in the sky. The branches on the side of the pictures is a little distracting; you could try to crop them out.
