    Falling Falls

After a recent trip to some waterfalls, we found this beautiful location with 40-50 foot falls. Just magnificent to see. Though hard to see, it was possible to rock climb/hike to the top of the falls, and literally be sitting on the rock, looking over the edge. Quite the feeling. Does this picture work for you guys? Too cliche? I know it looks tilted, but suprisingly, that's the way the falls look.

As always, I appreciate the comments,

    Jared

I like the falls itself, especially the slow shutter speed effect. I think the composition would be improved with about 20% more foreground and the falls framed a little bit closer to the center. I think it needs more shadow detail via some Photoshop adjustment of the histogram.

Waterfalls, though beautiful, do tend to look alike. I try to include enough of the surrounds to suggest the location, such as folliage to show whether it is pine forest or tropics. Including an interesting plant in the foreground helps in that regard. It also helps to include a tree or something that indicates the scale.

Nice one Jared. Did you happen to take this shot in portrait orientation? It may be just me, but I think a vertical composition, with a little more included at the top and bottom, would look awesome. I also agree with Roy's suggestions, with the addition that the greens could be more saturated...I played with a (very) little bit, and here's the result...

Great shot Jared! I think that DBF's edit helps take it to its full potential. love the slow shutter.

Thanks everyone for the comments! I did do a few vertical shots, and let me attach my best one. Downbyfive, I like the color adjustment too, it works.

Thanks everyone for the comments! I appreciate them!

I agree with Roy here in that I feel showing more of the surrounding area puts the falls in perspective, and actually captures it's magic, i feel. DownbyFive did an improvement on the pic, but still the comp is too tight. The vertical shot you posted looks much better and more interesting with the two levels of falls. Good framing. But could also use a levels adj.

    Gary,

Thanks for the words. I'll try messing around with the levels and see what I can draw up!

    Thanks again,

    Jared
