    Re: F3

You need more DOF for this shot to work. In fact most micro shots do have to the bug/flower has to be in focus so tripod and high f stop and long exposures. As a note the longer the lens the better it is for micros of bugs, I like the shorter lenses for flowers and other stuff which don't move.

Thanks a lot for the comments..

what I like about this picture is the super shallow DOF, and that's something that that lens is awesome for. ;)

    here is an smaller one..

Really shallow DOF there, but so shallow and such high contrast that it really doesn't show up.
That's why people are seeing a blurred photo, the area of focus is really only a few mm.

You're going to need to bear that in mind with macros, and shoot nearer 90 degrees to the plane of your subject to get anything in focus with insects

    Re: F3

i think the first picture is really great, it draws complete attention to the F3 but lets the eye wonder around and look at the rest of the camera. which I would believe is what he was going for.

the problem i have with macros (with myself taking them) is when the DOF is so narrow and i have the camera tilted to make the subject straight the dof area is a diagnal line instead of parrallel to the edges of the frame.

i think that might be part of what is throwing people off in this picture to. )plus the dof above the F3 is out of focus because the camera drops back there.

    Re: F3

The extremely low depth of field flattens, and the high contrast, the picture out into an abstract and 2 dimensional design. For me, it turned into a night cityscape.

I knew what it was as soon as I saw the title( ), but I think not knowing what it was would make it even better.

    Beautiful picture Hucker.
