Pretty cool portrait. I like the mechanics stethoscope hanging over his neck . . .
Is he a mechanic in his shop?
Def has your sig style written in this.
Great shot Dray........your portraits are always so impressive........I dont see anything wrong with the sharpness.........lol
Canon 1DmkIII, 24-105L, 17-40L, 50mm f/1.8
I choose to live my life to a different tune of music., one which is not censored or wrapped so much with a blanket of over -regulation, Health & Safety gone mad, fear and blind compliance to anything you are told to do...........
Downfallen, RIP
Where do I know him from? What was your lighting set up? He looks like a country singer from the 70's. Mac something????
I know Mac Davis.
No critique. Absolutely awesome.
I am like Barney Fife, I have a gun but Andy makes me keep the bullet in my pocket..
Vic - lol good! Glad to get the Sharpness Seal Of Approval from one who can only be referred to as the Sharpness King.
Greg - lol. Einstein with (I think) large Octabank high, left, some kind of speedlight bouncing off the wall, right, and I think I was using a barebulb speedlight behind him at a low output. It's all very hazy, though. It was awhile ago and wasn't quite in my right mind during that shoot.
2434 - I was wondering about that. It's been awhile (October of last year) and I don't remember if this was as shot or cropped. If cropped, my guess is that there was a good reason (distractions, etc.). But I do see what you mean. I think the intent behind the vignette and crop would have been to draw more attention to his face.
n8 - my workflow is, thankfully, constantly changing. I do remember that I wanted a Dragan feel here and that I used curves on monochromatic contrast, selective color (for the blacks, mostly), and a couple textures. I'm trying to get away from the contrasty, "black-blacks" kind of look, but it seemed to suit this subject pretty well.
Liban, Phil, and Clay - thanks!
I was wondering if I need to bring his hat back in at the top, instead of having it fade out? And if that bright spot underneath his left leg needs fixing? And... now that I'm looking at it again.. whether that little shadow spot above his upper lip is a problem...
Love this shot Dray. Somehow it inexplicably conjures up images of Gene Wilder as Will Wonka
I think the color burn vignette works exceedingly well here.

I keep on coming back to this photo. I also thought of Gene Wilder! I simply love how you captured a whimsical somewhat childlike charm in this. It makes me think of carnivals. I wish I could fave this photo. Admire your talent!
