    Executive Chef

This guy gave us a cooking class and took us on a tour of the market. I sure wish I remembered his name, but if I don't write it down I have no chance. Too bad really. Capital fellow. The people in Bali are almost pathologically nice. In fact so much so they quickly wear on misanthropes like me.

    Oh well...

wow, no comments. I don't believe it. lol

I think it's a really great scene, might be a tad bit overprocessed on the bright side but nevertheless really awesome composition and a lot to look at all over the place. well done!

    Re: Executive Chef

You posted this one again with use of the 'samsung ICM' color profile. I can only assume you are shooting this raw, then converting to samsung in raw conversion. Or, you are converting from jpegs? I don't know if this is the kind of tonal look you are going for, but I personally find that Adobe and sRGB both work better than this colorspace, specifically with these images.

I hope you dont mind, I took the liberty of processing this one a bit myself in sRGB colorspace, I also brightened it a bit with a curves adjustment and plus 10 brightness. I also added a new layer, and put a black straight gradient edge at all 4 corners, centerpoint on the chefs jacket, adjusted opacity to 60%.

I dont know if its what you are going for.

I also noticed the mans shirt was either overexposed or blown in process, it also had a slightly purple tone to it, which is weird because everything else seems pretty neutral - perhaps his shirt was just slightly purple?

Great expression and great shot. I do wish I could see his eyes better, but having a squinty subject is as always unavoidable.

You know I am not sure why I am getting the samsung color profile. I would be putting them in adobe rgb, but srgb is a sensible choice too. I guess I need to get that under control. Must be a preference in adobe. The purpling on the jacket has got to be a white balance problem and I have the issue lots of times in tone mapping. I need to figure it out, because I do NOT like it.

I love the composition but the colours to me are a little two vivid and false looking.

Yeah. As I have said before. I have a vulgar eye. I like it bright-colored and highly-textured. But I really don't want to be taking photos just for myself, and so the feedback here is wearing me down to submission. I will keep HDR and tone mapping in my arsenal, and still use them more often than not, but I am starting to try to tone it down. Saturation is the first battle, and color accuracy is the second, I mean in terms of things I need to get under control. I am also starting to try to work with more traditional lighting methods. This should help compress dynamic range a bit and hopefully make tone mapping more effective. Anyway, I think I am making progress, but there is just so much to get right...

I like AdobeRGB better as well, but for the sake of posting the images online - the default option is sRGB, post one in Adobe and it will be converted to sRGB in the web browser anyway.

Great shot. Looks best BIG. A lot happening here: this one really tells a story. I think the story would be even better if there were better DOF, but I see why you used a shallow one (to highlight the fellow on the right).

There is something odd about the color profile, though I am not sure what it is. The shot looks processed somehow too. I think what the issue is is that the highs are blown out (as you can see on the yellows and light greens) making it appear like a very old film that had a hard time with certain colors, and perhaps had poor resolution. Maybe Agfa? (I always thought that Agfa leaned towards the yellows ...). Anyway,..

This is a fine scene and a wonderful moment you got here. Lots to enjoy and look at. I think aside from possibly your white balance concerns as well as color space, your getting weird color exagerations when you bring on the heavy tone mapping. We have great detail and an almost drawn or illustrated affect here with the tone mapping, but at the same time the weird colors, especially in the skin are too much.
I think this would look great desaturated or even converted to b&w.
btw, I too find nice, nice, nice annoying after a while. I also don't trust 100% niceness. . .
