    End Insite

I have three exams of 11 remaining. I wanted this image to convey (photographically of course) how I've been keeping track, what I have left to do and finally that the end is in sight. Does it work as a photo? As a story?

    Thanks in advance,
    Chris

    Re: End Insite

A computer Science course? Its a long time since I did mine.

My only critique is that Formal languages exam should be a lot longer!!! LOL.

But I do like the photo and it brings back fond memories from the parties at the end of all the exams as well as the parties before the exams (3 years worth).

Photographic critique - and this could be my monitor or old eyes but I have a hard time with the softness of the photo in that the timetable in focus second square seems a little out of focus if you know what I mean - perhaps a lttle higher f stop to get more DOF

aahhh finals! It always was such a big relief to get them done and over with.
I recall it being a countdown as well (although I never had to countdown from 11!).

I think your photo does a good job of the countdown and anticipation of being done.
I like the composition and it leads my eye along the whole schedule. Very nice for a simple subject (not that computer science is ;) ). I like the dof.
    Cheers.

    Re: End Insite

Thanks everyone! I'm really pleased with the photo, for me it does capture how it feels right now. The lack of (or abundance of?) DOF was really done on purpose to show the focusing, but I see your point. For the obvious complement to this photo (which will be taken sometime after 75 hours in the future ) I'll bear this in mind.

Where did you read Computer Science Roger?

Great shot, and a nice use of black and white. I love the feel here, graduating myself this year, very touching and definately portrays the story.

    Well done,

I've decided that tis much better to give finals than to take them. I love being a teacher.

Its now called the University of Glamorgan near Cardiff - In those days it was called the Polytechnic of Wales. I still rmember doing mundane things like queuing theory and Assembly languages today but thank god I am no longer a programmer.

I think the lighting works nicely, perhaps a little light in the bottom right hand corner? Overall it's great, aren't you supposed to be in an exam in 90 minutes?!!

    Re: End Insite

Yeah. I'm not looking forward to it either!

The lighting was done for the most part using Photoshop's render. I will add some to the bottom right after my exam and see what it looks like.

Anyway, best get ready to go

    Re: End Insite

Right now the photo has its emphasis on the next exam. If you want the anticipation for the end and a bit more story put a handwritten note in the first open day of " Party at Gretchen's" or "Party at [insert name of campus bar] " and then switch the focus to that, making sure that the exam schedule is still understandable.

    Good luck on the exams.

    Re: End Insite

As a single photo, I think it has some interest.
But I think it would be better if it were part of a photo story.
It is an interesting photograph that I certain looked at for a long time.
It is a good composition with all the lines and text.

    Re: End Insite

    A powerful and interesting photo.

But I think the depth of field could be a lot shallower to focus the eye where you want it and the position of the in-focus area did not seem quite right to me. I think the problem is that it should have been shot vertical rather than horizontal.
