Dino magic

So i'm branching out from nature photography to more arts stuff.

So a few years ago Pittsburgh gave out a bunch of dinosaurs for people to decorate and then placed then around the city. This is one of them, obviously taken at night with flash. I deleted a few lights in the background, converted to B&W and added the frame. What do you think?

this is sweet, but it kind of looks computer generated.

I like it but maybe would clone out the support in front. Depends on what you want to show though.

i didn't even think about that sign in front, i guess it does distract a little bit. unfortunentally i'm not very good with pp work and still need to invest in a better program to use to.

Dylan, the glare and reflection coming off the base of the subject is not good. Did you try angling the flash away from the subject a bit, or placing a difuser over the flash? It may help with the lighting here. As pointed out already, removing the sign would also improve alot. I'm not feeling that frame, and find it detracts more than it does add. Try this set up again and see if you can improve on it.

You know, when I first looked at this I thought this was being de-constructed and there was nothing but the wire frame. After looking at this for a while now I see that it's covered in mirror mosaic tiles. Very Cool! :cool: If you get an opportunity to re-shoot this one, shoot it from a few different angles. My personal gripe is that the dino is facing away from me so it leaves me wishing I could see it's face better. I would also really play up the disco ball effect on the ground around the statue that you're getting off of the mirror pieces from your flash. If you have an off camera flash you might want to set up the tripod and have a friend flash the dino from a couple of different directions. That would also help to distinguish it more from the dark background.

I'd like to see this in the daytime.

Gahspidy- all i have right now is the on camera flash on my d200 so doing much flash photography is kinda hard right now.

CLKunst- yes it is covered in glass. the dinos were designed by different people and many represented pittsburgh, this one was placed in front of PPG (pittsburgh plate glass company ( the building is competely glass and very cool to see to- it was used in the "new" inspector gadget movie). The reason i shot at this angle was to try to get the dark background as at my back was a big fountain with lights etc. if i get back down that way i'll experiment more though.

i did play around with the strength of the flash, but all of them still had a hot spot or 2 due to how many angles the glass pieces are attached.

swmdrayfan - it is one of my favorite decorated dinos and is nice during the day, but i don't have any pics of it.
