    Fish picture

Im an avid fish keeper and enjoy taking shots of them, This one I took of one of my Texas cichlids.
I didn't take note of the camera settings but I will in future, It was taken with a Fujifilm s7000 at max Quality. What do you guys think?

over-all, i like it and think it's an interesting photo.

some thoughts that may improve it: crop-off much of the left, especially to remove the foreground green leaf which is a distraction, use PS to get some more sharpness to the fish as it seems a little soft to me and maybe play with the saturation of the fish.

i also think if the background was more out of focus, you would have had the fish pop-out a bit more.

    hope this is useful, cheers!

Like it. With high magnification shots of small objects (like fish) it helps if you use a small aperture setting. It will produce lots of detail.

I've taken photos of my own cichlids and know how hard it can be so lemme first say congrats on that. I think i'd like to see a little bit more of a profile shot of him though, not too much though

I have taken a few shots from my sisters saltwater tank, and I know that they are not so easy to get sometimes, always alot of movement and less co-operation. This is really a cute shot. I like it alot, it kind of gives you a little of his personality.

    Nice shot of the fish.
Seems to have an overall yellow cast to me. I don't know how accurate these colors are, but it gives more seperation from the background. What colorbalance do you use?

Your correction is really too red Chunk and still too saturated in my opinion.

You are right. I didn't mess with the saturation, just slid the color temp slider in PaintshopPro's color balance dialog box with the 'remove color cast' box checked. After reading your post I have to agree that it's better not as warm and desaturated some. Thanks Elysian.

I like it because you can't really tell that it was in a fish tank at all. It would be nice to see the fish with more vibrant coloring, but this is really great shot for such a difficult setting!
