    Christmas magic, an alternate take

I wanted to craft one of these diptych for a while and I thought that this one could work.

    Comments are welcome

Seb - They seem to sort of compliment each other. I'm not sure how because there's a lot of difference between the two photos - one with people, one not, one slightly cramped, one not, etc - but it shows both a nostalgic and a modern Christmas. I find the left shot very warm. I think that the right shot is OK but like I said a bit cramped, but it also has a colder tint that I dont find as appealing. I would warm it up a little in PS or related.

Btw, I just learned a new word: diptych.

    Seb,

Two nice photos. I have only been on this site for a year but I am not used to seeing your shots in color. I like the shot of the piano (now we have seen both sides), very calming, colors are great. It would seem you have the distortion factor figured out in both shots. The second shot has terrific colors and again, you have found a way to eliminate the harsh background shadows typical of indoor pictures. Something I have not completely figured out myself.

    Nice shots.

GB: Thanks. These two pictures where shot two different days in different circumstances and I didn't meant to present them together at the first place. That's really an after thought so I am glad to know that you find them to work well side by side. I will try to warm up the right picture so they both display similar tones.

CF: Quite frankly, most of my work is in colors. lol You must be referring to the small b&w series from the Magdalen Islands that I have produced last summer but that's a special case. The light isn't so well controled in the second shot. I which it was but I managed to hide flaws in post-processing. I need to learn how to get things right at the first place. One of my main goal for this year is to learn about studio lighting. Thanks for your good words.

Seb, these can go together as they both represent the holiday spirit, sort of thing. Something, however, just does not seem completely right though. When I think about it, I find that it might be very interesting to use the other "cheesy" shot of the piano with the girl looking around the doorway instead. It would/may seem like she is peering around at them while they are looking off out of the frame at her, exchanging cheese if you will.
Have you given that one a try? I would like to see that as I think it would make the better Diptych.

GB: I worked on the tones of the version displayed on my site. I slightly cooled down the left picture and slighly warmed up the right one. Let me know what you think about it.

Gary: I am picturing this in my head and I am thinking that the result could be totally hilarious but I don't feel good about the distortion on her face in this shot you are referring at (so I don't think that I'd be using this one in an end product). I'd need to reshot. I'll see what I can come up with.

    regards

nice job with the christmas tree, having shot one before, i know how hard it is to balance the ambient and flash...I'm assuming you used flash for it...
