Shot these over Thanksgiven weekend at the Colorado river. Probably could have used a better foreground, like maybe a cactus..? Shot on Fuji Velvia.

Those desert sunsets can get pretty awesome. I shot this from the back of my jeep (my wife was driving) as we crossed over the california/arizona border.

Sunrises can quickly become cliche if there is no prominent subject. Unfortunately, all the pictures suffer from that. Though I love the colors, there just needs to be something there for me (a silhouette, something in the sky, etc.)

I totally agree, Jared ... Somehow, even viberant colors can get old if you see them over and over.

Yep, I think the true test of a photograph is its ability to withstand the test of time, where someone keeps stopping and looking at it. For that, I think you need a little 'mystery' or something. And it seems that only a small percentage of my pix have that, unfortunately. But at least I realize it now.

Schrackman, I like your sunset better btw!

I like all 3, specially 1 & 2. What really draws me to these shots is the rays that are shooting from behind the mountains. Having a subject is nice but I think these work for me for that reason. I'd love to see the rays become more prominent.

LeeIs - Thanks. I also like how the rays seem to emulate from the sun.. that is what's tantilizing about the shots. If not for a relatively weak subject, that would make for a really nice shot. Guess I should have done my hw the evening before and identified a good subject and been there and waiting at sunrise.... (laziness and photography don't mix!)
